Union County residents with old metal gutters, fences or appliances to dispose of can bring these items and more to free scrap metal recycling sites on Saturday, August 20. The scrap metal recycling program is sponsored by the Union County Board of County Commissioners and takes place twice a month from April through November.
“Our free scrap metal recycling program allows Union County residents to conserve valuable resources and also helps our municipalities manage their waste disposal budgets,” said Rebecca Williams, Chair of the Board of County Commissioners. of union.
Items acceptable for recycling include, but are not limited to, air conditioners, scrap aluminum, aluminum siding, bicycles, brass, copper, dishwashers, electric fans, fences ( chain/wire), freezers, gutters, irons, lawn furniture, metal cabinets, sheds, microwaves, pots and pans, railings, refrigerators, stoves, tire rims, grills- bread, washers and dryers, window frames (without glass) and wire hangers.
Scrap metal drop-off will be accepted from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on August 20 at two free drop-off points:
- Cranford: Emergency Services Building, 151 Kenilworth Boulevard
- Rahway: Rahway River Park (follow Park Drive, Rahway from St. Georges Avenue to the service yard in front of the pool)
Residents of any municipality in Union County can drop off their scrap metal at either location.
The next scrap events will take place on Thursday September 1st and Saturday September 17th.
Please note that Union County scrap metal recycling events are drive-in only and non-contact.
Participants must remain in their vehicle at all times. Materials should be placed in the trunk, loading area or truck bed and easily accessible for personnel to remove.
