Tomorrow is Westchester County Home Recycling Day!

0

DEF will be hosting its first Home Recycling Day (HRD) on April 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at FDR State Park! After a successful event in 2021, DEF will return to FDR State Park and accept old drugs, chemicals, electronics and other materials from county residents. Last year, DEF hosted 4 HRD events across the county and hosted over 2,500 residents. We hope to see you at our first event on April 23 and future events! Future events will be listed on the Westchester County Events Calendar.

If you are unable to host an HRD event, you can visit DEF’s Household Materials Recovery Facility (H-MRF) located on the Grasslands campus at 15 Woods Road, Valhalla, NY. The permanent facility accepts the same items as the DDHs and is open year-round. Household hazardous waste and other items worthy of special handling are accepted from Westchester County residents by appointment only.

At HRDs, the service operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and in the event of extreme weather conditions when working conditions are deemed unsafe, events may be canceled or terminated earlier. The mobile shredder is available in all HRDs, but be aware that on occasion the mobile shredder unit may reach its maximum paper shredding capacity before closing time. Although infrequent, residents should be aware and open-minded about the possibility of early closure. On the day of an event, residents can call the County Recycling Hotline at (914) 813-5425 to verify a cancellation or early closing.

Follow these simple rules:

  • Don’t forget to tightly seal all bags and bottles.

  • All chemicals must be in original or labeled containers.

  • Place all chemicals in a sturdy box and in the trunk of your car.
