Latushko calls on IMF to rule out possibility for Belarus to borrow
Pavel Latushka believes that the International Monetary Fund should not give Belarus money while Lukashenka is in power.
He made an appropriate appeal to the Managing Director, the Board of Governors and the Executive Board of the IMF.
Latushka calls on the IMF to deny the illegitimate government of Belarus the right to any loan from the IMF and to issue an official statement on the suspension of access to IMF funds for the Lukashenka regime.
Pavel Latushka cited three main reasons for the IMF to cease all cooperation with the Lukashenka regime:
- The non-recognition of the legitimacy of Belarusian leadership by most of the IMF member countries;
- the European Parliament resolution of June 10, 2021, which called on, among others, the IMF and EU member states “not to provide direct budget support to the regime under any circumstances and to refrain from using the process of ‘special loan announced for 2021;
- An act of international terrorism: the hijacking of a civilian Ryanair plane using the Belarusian air force by the Lukashenka regime.
Besides Pavel Latushka’s speech, this position was also expressed in letters sent to the IMF’s executive director from the United States and to the IMF’s managing director.
