Families across the UK are facing pressure by the minute amid rising inflation as the cost of living crisis grips the country.

Experts at PriceSpy, a comparison website, have tracked how different household items cost compared to their price in 2018, with some costing over £300 more today.

The items they examined include white goods such as fridge-freezers and washing machines, as well as vacuum cleaners and gadgets such as televisions and mobile phones.

PriceSpy looked at multiple brands in each category to find average cost increases.

The biggest price increase is for watches, which cost an average of £317 more than in 2018, while fridge-freezers cost £233 more.

While someone looking to buy a new mobile phone could face a price hike of £170, or £148 for a new set of portable speakers.

PriceSpy’s research highlights the importance for consumers to compare prices before making a purchase.

PriceSpy told The Mirror that inflation played a crucial role in these price increases – but said “we cannot underestimate the impact of other factors such as Brexit, innovative new products and products top of the line”.

Inflation has just hit its highest level in 30 years, climbing to 5.4% last month from 5.1% in November.
