The Stanly County Solid Waste Department, the City of Albemarle, ECOFLO, PowerHouse Recycling and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will again provide services this year for the event on household hazardous waste.

A household hazardous waste collection event and electronics recycling event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 23 in the back parking lot of the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center, 26032-B Newt Road, Albemarle.

Leave all materials in their original containers, place them in a cardboard box, and carry them in the trunk or back of your vehicle.

All customers ask to stay in their vehicle.

This event is for residents of Stanly County. No businesses or churches allowed.

Materials accepted for recycling/hazardous waste disposal are:

• Acids/bases, aerosols, automotive products, drain cleaners, flammable products, furniture finishes/strippers, household batteries, household cleaners/varnishes, paint and paint products and wood preservatives. We will also take household fluorescent bulbs.

• Pesticides: Almost all pesticide products will be accepted. For liquid pesticide containers larger than 5 gallons or for unlabeled pesticides, contact the co-op’s extension office for information before bringing them to the collection event. Call Katelyn Stovall at 704-986-6104.

• Collection of recycled electronic products: Electronic devices contain heavy metals such as lead, mercury and cadmium. This type of material should not be thrown in the landfill. This is an opportunity to recycle much of the e-waste stream.

• Acceptable Electronics: Computers, monitors, typewriters, printers, copiers, fax machines, scanners, televisions, video recorders, radios, virtually anything with a circuit board.
