The new portfolio includes seven devices with built-in sanitization schedules and functions to sanitize packaged food and personal effects to help consumers adjust to the “new normal” at home. Developed through extensive consumer research across the world and with innovative new technology, the Hygiene Shield product line has the power to kill over 99% of bacteria and viruses (including coronaviruses), offering a level of reassurance unequaled in the market place.
Beko’s consumer research, in 31 countries, revealed that one of the main concerns is hygiene. Many of us sanitize supermarket purchases when we get home, worry about handling cell phones and keys, or not bringing coats home. People have increased the amount of cleaning and laundry in their homes, with some people disinfecting bedding for the first time. 75% of people clean the house more often, 64% do more laundry and 68% pay more attention to the cleanliness of the packaging of purchased products.
The line is inspired by nature and uses methods such as steam and heat to enable consumers to achieve excellent hygiene results at home. CEO of Arcelik hakan bulgurlu was joined for a virtual discussion by the CMO of Arçelik, Zeynep Yalım Uzun and guest speakers, medical broadcaster and general practitioner Sarah Jarvis and Christopher Sanderson, co-founder and CEO of Future Laboratory to announce the launch.
Hakan Bulgurlu says: “It has been a very difficult year and we believe that now more than ever everyone should have access to good quality products that take care of them and the environment. We are delighted to present the latest innovations from Beko and our very first complete product. range of products in the market. The products have been designed to help consumers achieve professional levels of hygiene in the home and protect them against infection and disease. Our technologies are independently tested by Airmid Health Group, a respected biomedical research organization. To date, HygieneShield washing machines, washer-dryers, ovens and refrigerators have been shown to provide over 99% reduction of viruses. Airmid testing for UV disinfection cabinets and clothes dryers is ongoing and we expect to finalize the testing and certification processes by November. Our dishwashers are being independently tested by Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the testing and certification process is expected to be completed in October. We hope our products will give consumers peace of mind that their homes are safe and clean as we all continue to adjust to the “new normal”. »
Doctor Sarah Jarvis says, “I have spoken positively on television about UV light for disinfection purposes: it has been widely used for sterilization in hospitals, airplanes and factories for some years. It was also used in China since April of this year. COVID-19 has made us all think about how we live outside the home, with masks and social distancing, but I see my patients starting to think about hygiene at home, where we spend so much more time. I don’t think we should all be going back to the workplace just yet – working from home wherever we can will keep us safe and reduce the spread of COVID-19. Keeping things clean is the challenge; I advise my patients to wash towels (especially those in the downstairs toilet) and tea towels more frequently and to wash face masks after each use.”
Christopher Sanderson, CEO of Future Laboratory, a trend consultancy London, writes in a new report, “The house has played a central role in the recent global crisis, forced to serve as an office, a school, a gym, a restaurant or even a healthcare setting, our homes are become the front line of our outer lives.”
Improve your hygiene experience at home
1. UV cleaning cabinet
Coronavirus can survive for five days on smooth surfaces, so the cabinet uses UV light technology to clean items you’ve used outside the home or are concerned about. Keys, phones, wallets, supermarket packaged goods, plastic bags, baby bottles and toys can all be safely cleaned in a 20-40 minute cycle without damaging items. This smart portable device can live anywhere in the house and its touchscreen makes it easy to use too.
2. Combined refrigerator with disinfection drawer
The refrigerator sanitizes food in its original, sealed packaging, eliminating over 99% of bacteria and viruses in approximately 40 minutes. Instead of wiping down every item you bring home from the supermarket or storing them in a safe place for several days, this fridge does it for you. Its separate sanitizing drawer above the crisper drawer eliminates viruses, bacteria and germs with UV light technology distributed throughout the compartment.
3. Dryer with UV light technology
It’s not practical to wash your clothes every day or to wash certain styles of clothes at high temperatures, but we always want to be sure that our clothes are hygienic. The dryer eliminates bacteria and viruses and sanitizes your laundry in a safe and convenient way. The UV Hygienic Refresh program refreshes up to six dry garments. In addition, the UV Hygienic Drying program dries and sanitizes up to 5 kg of washed laundry, even clothes that should be washed at low temperatures.
4. & 5. HygieneShield washing machine and washer, dryer
We don’t know how long Coronavirus can survive on fabric and many of us worry about our clothes when we get home. What we do know is that people are washing their clothes longer at higher temperatures due to the pandemic. It can be expensive, not durable, and can damage our favorite clothes.
With an intelligent algorithm, an additional heating channel and a ventilation system, the hygiene therapy program fills the drum with hot air to keep the laundry at 60°C to thoroughly disinfect your clothes without water. Over 99% of viruses and bacteria are removed from 2 kg of clothing in 58 minutes, saving your money and the planet from the use of chemicals and extra water.
6. Built-in oven with saturated steam and heat
This oven not only cooks your food, it also cleans it. Using the exceptional sanitizing power of saturated steam and heat, this device offers two distinct disinfection programs, both involving heat and steam, operating at 70°C and 120°C respectively. Using the oven at 70°C for 15 minutes will sanitize the surfaces of packaged foods and make the exterior of baked goods more hygienic, without affecting their taste and structure. Using the oven at 120°C for 20 minutes will sanitize items such as metal bowls and glassware.
seven. HygieneShield Dishwasher
People trust their dishwashers far more than washing their hands, and with 79% of us cooking at home more frequently, dishes can pile up. For even more hygienic results, this machine has a hygiene function with steam and additional hot rinse functions.
The steam mist generated by the use of higher temperatures and an additional hot rinse ensures that the entire surface of each dish is perfectly hygienic. Dishwashers with the HygieneIntense function can be used with all programs that ensure disinfection using higher temperatures of 60°C (during the main wash) and 70°C (hot rinse). The technology also means temperatures can be held above 60 degrees for 50 minutes to sanitize kitchen items. The Intense Hygiene function offers an additional rinse step to further increase hygiene levels. This technology has been independently tested by the Rhine Waal University.
